In 2004, The Christ Center occupied an old house on Kennedy Avenue
near the campus. This house is currently used by small Bible study
groups as well as larger College ministries such as Christian Challenge,
Masterplan Ministries and the Christian Student Fellowship.
In 2006, The Christ Center gathered with student ministry leaders
from Christian Student Fellowship, Master Plan Ministries and
Christian Challenge to begin planning for the new facility. In the same
year the Center received a donation of .32 acres on the corner of 12th
and Bookcliff. This prominent parcel of land has been donated and will
be deeded, free and clear, to The Christ Center at the conclusion of a
Site Plan Review and Simple Land Split procedure currently in the
initial stages of review by the Grand Junction Community Development
Department.
Daniel Gartner, a principal of Chamberlin Architects, volunteered his
time to develop the design for The Christ Center. The design process
has involved numerous campus ministry leaders to make sure that the
building will be an exact fit for the mnistry activities that will take place
there. Daniel has designed a structure that will be a striking landmark
while being “porous”, warm and inviting.
In September 2006, the board began the process of raising funds
for the new facility.
